NO MORE RUM FOR ME! – By Dmitri Allicock

No more rum

NO MORE RUM FOR ME!

By Dmitri Allicock

Slurred song of a high wine’s grin

A staggering drunk- man caroling

Words and echoes of a sadden tone

Sober ballad of those days known

Eulogy to his dear friend of booze

Firewater numbing a heart’s bruise

Red eyes & shuffles in a graveyard

A grieving drunk man takes it hard

With swallows of the burning drink

He laid on a grave & started to think

The good times, he remembered then

Flashbacks of many departed friends

Harry wills, gin, wine and banks beer

So much drinking buddies laying here

Music still blasting in empty rum shop

Guyana’s beloved pastime he must stop

He suddenly and with a powerful hurl

Tossed his bottle in his changed world

Rousing spirits and the birds in the trees

Stood up shouting! No more rum for me!
